Short Plot Summary
Ellie is left alone at her wedding when her perfect fiancé, Ryan, doesn’t show up. Before she can even process the humiliation, she is kidnapped by Cole — a cold, dangerous man who claims Ryan literally gambled her away.

Ellie starts as a soft, romantic woman who believes in love and stability. What I really liked is her growth. She doesn’t stay weak. She learns. She questions. She fights back. Watching her slowly take control of her own choices is one of the strongest parts of the series.
Actress – Coco Taylor.
Cole
Cole is the definition of a morally grey man. Dangerous, traumatized, emotionally closed, and very intense. Yes, he kidnaps her — and no, the series does not pretend that is okay. But it does show why he is broken, and why his connection with Ellie feels raw and real. He is scary, protective, and deeply damaged.
Actor – Neil Bishop.
Ryan
Ryan is honestly terrifying in a very realistic way. Not loud. Not violent at first. Just charming, selfish, and manipulative. He represents control hidden behind “love,” and that makes him scarier than Cole in many moments.
Actor – Ben Robert Cunningham.
Tina
Tina adds jealousy, tension, and bitterness. She is not evil, but she is hurt, and her presence constantly reminds Ellie that she is part of someone else’s revenge story.
Actress – Emmy Coates.
Personal Opinion (Yes, I’m Emotional)
I was HOOKED. The tension is strong, the pacing is fast, and the emotional conflict feels addictive. The chemistry between Ellie and Cole is undeniable — uncomfortable, electric, and confusing in the best dark-romance way.
That said, this series is not soft or safe. Some moments are disturbing, and if you don’t like morally complicated romance, this will challenge you. Sometimes the story leans a bit too hard into romanticizing danger — and I did catch myself thinking, “Okay… this is a little much.”
But Ellie’s self-awareness saves it. The story knows this is wrong. It doesn’t pretend love magically fixes trauma. And I respect that.
Conclusion
The Other Side of Control is not a fairytale romance. It is a story about power, fear, desire, and choice. About how love can be twisted — and how a woman learns to reclaim herself in the middle of chaos.
If you love dark romance with emotional depth, flawed men, strong internal conflict, and a heroine who slowly wakes up — this series will consume you.
I hated parts of it. I loved parts of it.
And I definitely could not stop watching.
