I think the strongest part of In His Cold Eyes is the contrast between the two leads.
Ian has almost everything except control over his own life. Fletcher has almost nothing except the determination to keep moving. Fletcher pushes Ian to question his perfect image, while Ian offers Fletcher emotional and financial support he has never had.
Their chemistry is strong because it is built through conflict. Every argument feels connected to attraction, fear, or wounded pride. The hockey setting also supports the romance very well. Ice is cold, public, competitive, and violent, while their private relationship is hot, vulnerable, and dangerous.
However, the series sometimes pushes the tension too far. Some early interactions between Ian and Fletcher involve control, threats, and unclear boundaries. These scenes may be exciting for viewers who enjoy dark romance, but they can also make the emotional relationship feel unhealthy. A stronger focus on consent and honest communication would make their later romance more convincing.
