Laura’s transformation is the best part. I love that the story is not only “hot demon seduces innocent woman.” It is also about a woman who was taught to be quiet finally learning to want things loudly. That is powerful.
Damian is very entertaining as a love interest. He is dangerous, but also strangely tender in the way he sees Laura. I especially liked the portrait scene because it is not just about desire. It is about Laura seeing herself through someone’s eyes and realizing she is beautiful.
My small criticism: some scenes are very intense, and Damian’s control over Laura can feel uncomfortable. For dark romance, that is expected, but the story works best when Laura has real agency and fights back. The strongest moments are when she challenges him, not when she just reacts to him.
Also, Glen is almost too horrible, but honestly, it works for this type of story. He makes Damian look like hell’s most attractive red flag.
